Pharmacognosy

BOMI™ has funded and discovered some important medicines from plants. Some of theses are-

“Arteether”, a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from Artemisia annua, which treats malaria.

Amaryllidaceae alkaloid from Galanthus woronowii used for Alzheimer treatment.

Apomorphine hydrochloride, a dopamine receptor agoinst produced by Papaver somniftrum used to treat Parkinson’s disease).

Tiotropium bromide, isolated from Atropa belladonna, used to treat COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Nitisinone a modified mesotrione from Callistemon citrinus that prevents accumulation of fumaryl and maleyl acetoacetate in the liver and kidneys.

Extracts from Chaetomium globosum and Pseudomonas putida which have cytotxic effects against cancer cells.

 

Curcumin or diferuloylmethane from the rhizome of Curcuma longa, which serves as an anti-inflammatory anti-oxidant, anti-proliferative, anti-angiogenic, and anti-neoplastic agent. It can be used to treat many different conditions such as neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, allergy, asthma and bronchitis, inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, renal ischemia, psoriasis, scleroderma, acquired immunodeficiency disease (AIDS), and cancer.

More recently, BOMI™ has turned it’s attention to the efficacy of strigalactones and for the treatment of various forms of cancer.
